The energy price cap is set by the Iran Electricity Regulatory Board (IERB). The below figure shows the energy price cap in Iran Electricity Market during 2004–2023. Like most other electricity markets, the changes in the energy price cap are related to the changes in the fuel cost and inflation. As it is clear in the figure, the price cap did not change from 2016 to 2020.
Since the establishment of the electricity market in Iran until 2023 (about 20 years), the price of the market cap has increased more than 60 times.
The energy price cap of the electricity market has reached 1060 Rials per kWh on March 21, 2023
