Executive Summary

This report presents a brief introduction to Iran electricity Market. It aims to prepare a
statistical overview on the economic and technical conditions in the electricity market. The
key highlights fall within the following points:
• The total wholesale cost of load serving during the fiscal year was about 230,880 billion
Rials that manifests 24,356 billion Rials growth with respect to the previous year.
• The total traded energy volume in the electricity market was 309,304 GWh.
• The contribution of the spot market trades was 290,290 GWh that represent 10,175 GWh
growth compared to the previous fiscal year.
• Volume of import was 1,346 GWh during the fiscal year that represents 1,272 GWh de-
creased compared to the previous fiscal year.
• Volume of export was 8,056 GWh during the fiscal year that represents 1,743 GWh in-
creased compared to the previous fiscal year.
• The gas fuel has the largest contribution in the fuel portfolio of the thermal power plants.
• Frequency control continues to form the main remuneration stream among the ancillary
services for the power plants.
• The payment to the frequency control has been increased to 5,445 billion Rials during
the fiscal year.
