1. Generation
The total electricity generated was 367,723 GWh in the fiscal year which
shows about 5.6% increase compared to the last year. Peak seasonal
electricity generation occurs during the summer time. In contrast, winter
represents the lowest seasonal demand for electricity.
This characteristic shows the proportional relation between the seasonal
generation and the temperature, which is a frequently observed pattern
in IREMA.
The given pie-chart in figure 7 depicts and compares the contribution
of six different energy conversion technologies, namely combined-cycle,
steam turbine, gas turbine, hydroelectric, nuclear, and other power
1
plants. According to this chart, combined-cycle accounts for the highest
percentage of electricity generation (49% of the total) and then steam
and gas turbines possess the second rank and contributed approximately
22% and 19% of the total generated electricity.
Hydroelectric technology however has a small contribution (about 5%),
which has been increased compared to the last year. It should be noted
that the private sector contributed up to 57.6% of the whole energy
generation in the fiscal year.
1- Energy generated from “other” source is further classified into different subcategories such as biomass, wind,
solar, geothermal and distributed generations.
